Start off your week with kindness AND coffee!

02/06/2012

Hey everyone—hope you are all having a calm, stress-free Monday!

Here is today’s edition of: What I’m Loving Lately…

  • Dunkin Donuts Iced Coffee: I used to always think that Dunkin Donuts made their coffee too strong for me, but ever since my French Vanilla Iced Coffee yesterday morning, I am craving MORE! What made my coffee so good? I asked for a double shot of the vanilla flavoring and extra cream & sugar. YUM!

  • Pinterest. It’s addicting (and the perfect way for me to procrastinate from my school work). I am loving all of the recipe, craft, and fashion ideas that I have been “pinning” to my boards.
  •

  • Ritz Crackerfuls: These things are delicious (and relatively healthy too). If you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend that you do. They have become my ultimate on-the-go snack as of lately.Try some Walmart coupons and you can get some similar delicious (and relatively healthy) snacks.

  • Genuine Kindness: I am very thankful for the people in my life who are genuinely kind (with no alterior motives). I appreciate all of the people who go out of their way to show kindness and those who are simply kind without even trying to be.

Now it’s your turn…tell me: What are you loving as of lately?

A Productive Sunday?

02/05/2012

You know you’re going to have a productive day when:

  • You willingly wake up early. (8:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning is early to me)
  • You’re at the gym by 9:30 to work-out. (35 minutes on the treadmill followed by leg weights = done)
  • You finish up your reading for one class while at the gym!
  • You find time to stop for (free) coffee on the way home from the gym. (Finally used my gift card from Christmas)
  •

Productivity is all about your mindset to me. You’re only as productive as you want to be.

Today, I’m feeling productive so I’m going with it! Happy Sunday everyone! 🙂

No Need to Compare…

02/03/2012

I have a little confession to make…

Last Saturday, I was at the gym minding my own business completing my own walk/run interval workout, and I looked over to the treadmill on the left of me. I observed the girl running for just a second before glimpsing quickly at her treadmill screen. She was running at 8.0 speed for what had to have been the past 20 minutes. I was both suprised and impressed at the same time.

Instead of moving on from this, though, I got stuck…

I got stuck in the comparison trap. The comparison trap is where you fall when you start to compare yourself with others around you. Instead of focusing on your own personal successes you compare yourself to others’ progress. Instead of seeing your own strengths and improvements, you see yourself as not good enough or not strong enough compared to others.

The comparison trap is a low, dark, lonely place. Your attitude is negative. Your outlook is pessimistic, and there’s no positivity in sight.

It happens to the best of us. We compare ourselves to other people, and we end up feeling bad about ourselves. After Saturday happened to me, I started to think about how I could prevent myself from falling into the comparison trap.

Staying out of the comparison trap:

  • Keep written track of your progress. Writing down your progress with work-outs helps to hold you accountable and also allows you to realize how far you’ve come. You are able to see concrete progress and become more motivated to have continued success.
  • Go easy on yourself. Remind yourself where you started and where you are now. You cannot expect a miracle to happen! I know that I have come very far because when I started running I could barely run for 2 minutes straight without huffing and puffing. Now I can run two miles in a row (no big deal)! 🙂 I also completed a 5K last November.
  • Zone out at the gym. It always helps me to completely zone out at the gym. I connect to my music or enjoy chatting with a friend, and I just forget about all of the people around me doing their work-outs. This helps me focus just on me and my progress. The pressure to compare myself with other people goes away.
  • Focus on the positives. Remind yourself during your work-outs that you are unique. Your successes are your successes, and no one can take them away from you. Just because I run at 6.0 speed does not make me less capable or not as strong as the girl running 8.0 speed.

Tell me: How do you avoid the “comparison trap”?

A Pumpkin Spice Sunday!

01/29/2012

It’s perfectly okay to start your Sunday off with one two cups of coffee. My latest favorite (for my Keurig coffee maker) is the Pumpkin Spice variety pictured below.

I could probably drink about 3 more cups (that’s how delicious it is), but I won’t need to today. After getting a good night’s sleep (I was conked out by 10:30 p.m. last night) and waking up this morning at 8:30 a.m., I am feeling full of energy. I absolutely love days like this—when I feel this motivated to get things accomplished.

On my to-do list for today:

Tell me: What’s on your to-do list for today? What do you need to/want to get done?
